European farmers protests at EU summit against Net Zero policies

Hundreds of tractors converged on Luxembourg Square outside the European Parliament in Brussels as European farmers vented their frustration and issued a stark message to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen: “Ursula, we are here!” 

The protest is in response to farmers’ grievances about excessive environmental and agricultural regulations such as the EU’s Green Deal. They are also protesting free trade agreements between the EU and other countries. 

There are reports of rubber bullets and water cannons being used against the farmers, while farmers set fires, throw eggs, stones and dump manure.  

The protests have disrupted daily life across the EU.
