The real challenge lies in addressing birth rates that are nearing zero, and GDP per capita that has been shrinking for over two years. By August, New Zealand had a net loss of 56,082 citizens and a net gain of 109,928 immigrants, mostly from India, China, and the Philippines. 

“Any attempt at assimilating these immigrants has been completely abandoned. In fact, the official government policy is to encourage these economic migrants to keep their culture, language and ethnic solidarity,” he writes. 

De Boer argues that fixing these issues, while painful, is essential to avoiding future economic disaster and creating conditions that will encourage New Zealanders to return.
