Meta admits to censoring anti-Kamala Harris posts, shadowbanning conservative content

A Meta software engineer revealed that Facebook censors conservative posts, specifically those critical of US Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

Jeevan Gyawali admitted to an undercover journalist that comments critical of Harris are automatically demoted without users being notified.

“Say your uncle in Ohio said something about Kamala Harris [being] unfit to be a president because she doesn’t have a child. That kind of s**t is automatically demoted,” he explained.

This is part of Meta’s “Integrity Team” efforts to shadowban content using “civic classifiers,” targeting political posts.

Gyawali further claimed Meta influenced the 2020 election and could do so again in 2024. He also mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg supports the censorship, which could impact his career if Donald Trump wins and takes action against him.

Editor’s note: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently admitted that Facebook censored COVID related content as requested by the Biden White House.

“I believe the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it,” Zuckerberg wrote in a recent letter to US Congressional representative Jim Jordan.
