NZ’s curriculum fail

In her article “NZ’s curriculum fails the test” Maryanne Spurdle takes to task the country’s lack of a content-rich curriculum. In light of the “refresh” currently in the works, Spurdle asks if deficits will be addressed and considers the Ministry’s approach, which leaves content open for interpretation, to be a failure. 

Quoting a paper by Dr Nina Hood, Spurdle points out that “International research, routinely finds that those countries or provinces that deliver a comprehensive, content-rich curriculum which ensures that students acquire a broad general knowledge, achieve higher and more equitable student outcomes than countries with skills-based or more open curricula.”
