MPs in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, says Peter Williams, after finding out one of Labour’s leading critics of the PM’s $52k accommodation allowance is himself claiming one.

In a scathing rebuke, broadcaster Peter Williams lambasts Labour MP Willie Jackson, accusing him of hypocrisy. Williams points out how Jackson is cashing in with his own “little property empire” while going after the PM for being out of touch for claiming a housing entitlement. 

Jackson claims a tax-free accommodation allowance while owning multiple properties, including homes in Auckland, Rotorua, and Wellington. Jackson says the difference is that Luxon is mortgage free, but Williams reports that Jackson only has one mortgage listed despite owning three properties. 

“If Luxon is ‘out of touch with everyday New Zealanders’ Willie doesn’t have much in common with them either,” says Williams. 

Williams calls out the media for baulking at criticising Jackson because “Willie’s in the Labour Party.”
